Academic Year: 2026-2027
Event Name: Field Visit
Event Date : 30th October 2026
Event Schedule : 9:30am to 2pm
Event Venue : Don Bosco College , Panjim and Rajdeep Construction,St Inez.
The Department of Civil Engineering organised an industrial site visit for students to provide
practical exposure to ongoing construction activities and help them understand the application of
theoretical concepts in the field. The students were accompanied by Dr.Nitendra Palankar,
Prof.Vanessa Fernandes and Dr Monica Joseph.
The students visited two under-construction sites in Panjim.
1. Don Bosco Construction Site, Panjim
The first site visited was an under-construction building at Don Bosco College , Panjim.Fr.Kinley
Dcruz explained the students about the Don Bosco College project. During the visit, students
observed the ongoing masonry construction work. They gained practical knowledge about the
construction of masonry walls, including the arrangement of bricks/blocks, mortar application,
bonding patterns and alignment of walls. The students also understood the importance of
workmanship, proper construction techniques and quality control in masonry work.
2. Rajdeep Construction Site,St Inez,Panjim
The second site visited was the Rajdeep Construction project, where students had the opportunity
to observe slab construction work on the 7th floor. The site visit provided practical exposure to
various stages of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) slab construction. Students observed the
reinforcement arrangement, placement of reinforcement bars, formwork and shuttering
arrangements, and the preparations involved before concrete placement. They also gained an
understanding of the importance of reinforcement detailing, proper cover, safety measures and
quality control during slab construction at higher floors.
The industrial site visit was informative and beneficial for the students. It provided an opportunity
to observe actual construction practices and understand the differences between masonry
construction and RCC slab construction. The visit helped bridge the gap between classroom
learning and practical field experience while enhancing the students' understanding of construction
techniques, materials and site management.
