Scratch Programming Basics Workshop

Second year computer engineering students attended a workshop on “Scratch Programming Basics” on  March 14 , 2020 in Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda – Goa. The workshop was organized by C-CODES computer students association. The workshop started at 2.00 pm with a hands-on session in the Computer Department laboratories. Asst. Prof. Merwyn D’Souza, Computer Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda was the resource faculty for the day and the coordinator for the workshop.

Scratch is a visual programming environment where you design/create your interactive stories, games & animations. Scratch involves drag and drop of various blocks together to write programs & such an environment enables the users to focus on the logic & enjoy the learning experience! Unlike most Java/C++ development environments, there is NO free-form typing, so there are syntax errors either!

The workshop covered the basics of Scratch Programming Skills with topics :What is Scratch?

Understanding the Basic of Scratch, Installation of Scratch, Creating new sprite, different scripts available, importing sprites from library, Changing stage background, programming the sprites and Sprite Interaction via Variables.

Students gained hands-on experience with Scratch programming and its features and learnt to design simple Scratch animations.
